Open House / Hamburger Feed

Farm Bureau had a Ribbon Cutting, Open House & Free Hamburger for the county on Friday April 26th. There were more than 280 people that came through the serving line, and toured the new offices. Among those who visited were, FB President Mike Spradling, Monica Wilke, among many others from the state office ( too many to remember all the names, sorry). The YF&R members helping serve our community were Clint & Jessica Wilcox, and Monica Wahl. The FB Women's committe brought sheet cakes and helped serve also.

YF&R drew for the Stihl Chainsaw which was a Raffle that had began in November. Clint Wilcox held the box while FB area Rep. Todd Honer drew the winner. Winning the Chainsaw was Fairview resident Timmy Tucker.

Food Check-Out Week

On Friday February 26th,the YF&R along with the Farm Bureau Women's Committee, celebrated FB Food Checkout Week (Feb 21 - 26) by surprising some unexpecting shoppers. These 2 groups from Farm Bureau decided to stake out their local grocery store and give shoppers that had 3 types of items in their cart, $20 toward their grocery bill. We gave $20 to 5 different shoppers. In their cart they had to have some type of dairy, vegetable &/Or fruit, meat, and wheat product. It was a success!!! The shoppers were definetly taken by surprise!!

Farm Bureau Week

During Farm Bureau Week, the Major County YF&R decided to put a little farm in the classroom county wide...How else to do this, but by having a coloring contest. We sent pictures to the county school; this included Cleo Springs, Ringwood and Fairview. We gave them to the Pre - K to the 3rd grade. We picked the top 3 in each grade at each school. 1st was awarded with a free personal pan pizza, 2nd was awarded 2 free ice cream cones from Sonic, and 3rd received a Farm Bureau pencil and pen. We had a lot of interesting artists to choose from. We announced the winners at opening in Fairview, and the other 2 schools handed them out in class.

Pruning at Plymouth Valley Cellars..

January 26, 2010 our local young farmers & ranchers group met out at Plymouth Valley Cellars and pruned the grape vines. This is our second year to perform this fundraiser. Thanks to the nice weather, this year was very nice and no one froze to death. Thanks to Dennis and Elaine Flaming for giving us the opportunity to raise money for our group to go to National Convention next month.
